The Experiment

Many new pond owners believe it takes years for stocked fish to reach catchable size. However, with the right approach, you can accelerate growth and enjoy fishing in your pond much sooner. To demonstrate the impact of proper nutrition on fish growth, we conducted a feeding experiment on a newly stocked pond.

Initial Stocking

  • 1,500 2-3″ Bluegill
  • 500 3-5″ Bluegill
  • 400 2-3″ Redear
  • 100 3-4″ Redear
  • 35 pounds of Fathead Minnows

Feeding Regiment

To demonstrate the impact of proper nutrition on fish growth, we conducted a feeding experiment on a newly stocked pond.

Results

  • Rapid Growth: The fish exhibited significant growth within a few months.
  • Increased Weight: Relative weights increased significantly, even with a relatively light feeding regimen.
  • Promising Future: The pond is on track to produce trophy-sized bluegill in a much shorter timeframe.

Conclusion

By implementing a well-planned feeding strategy, you can accelerate the growth of your stocked fish. Our experiment demonstrates that high-quality fish food and consistent feeding can yield impressive results.
