Introduction
An active customer of Aquatic Control has been facing many issues with HABs, including Oscillatoria and Lyngbya. They rely on this pond for fishing and swimming in which harmful algae is not ideal.
Understanding Oscillatoria/Lyngbya
Oscillatoria and Lyngbya are both types of blue-green algae that may produce toxins. Some of the drivers of their growth include light, excess nutrients, low flow, and warm, shallow water. This particular type of algae can form dense mats that seem to rise to the surface of the water during high sunlight and migrate to the bottom during low light or cloudy days. This species is incredibly hearty. It has the ability to overwinter in the sediment and remain viable even if dried for a few years.
Why Use A Non-Copper Algaecide?
GreenClean Pro is a peroxide-based algaecide that will eliminate algae on contact. It works through oxidation to break down the algal cell structures. It can be used as a preventative treatment or to address existing growth.
The Results
The elimination of tough HAB’s have improved the aesthetic appeal of the pond. With the use of GreenClean Pro for filamentous algae, and SeClear taking care of any planktonic blooms, along with improving water quality, this water was also now safe for recreation.
Conclusion
GreenClean Pro and SeClear effectively and efficiently removed any active oscillatoria/lyngbya. They were also prevented from returning to the pond for the whole season.
